The core of this measurement system is the cDAQ-9174 chassis extending up to four slots, which provides the timing and synchronization backbone for the multi-channel measurements. The chassis uses the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed communication bus and forms a platform that can process any mixed measurements necessary for accurate hardware-timed measurements on all choices of installed modules.
For the critical sensor interfacing task, the cDAQ-SL4201 package incorporates two NI-9237 simultaneous bridge input modules. These additional workhorses are employed in the measurement of strain and load properties with four inputs per module, which can be sampled at 50 kS/s per input, with zero delay between inputs. This module incorporates all necessary signal conditioning, with provision for internal programmable voltages up to 10 V and 24-bit resolution, for directly connecting and powering full, half or quarter bridge sensors. The NI-9237 modules are additionally supplied with 60 VDC isolation and other advanced features, such as remote sensing and shunt calibration, in order to ensure that the integrity of the measurements is maintained while eliminating any signal degradation where high levels of EMF are present.
This combination of a cDAQ-9174 chassis and dual NI-9237 modules creates a vastly powerful instrument for usage by engineers in automotive, aerospace or materials science applications. The system is intended for performing dynamic force analysis, structural health monitoring and fatigue testing, where correlation of data from concurrent sensors is required. Supported by software tools such as FlexLogger for immediate logging of data and LabVIEW for specific custom application development, the cDAQ-SL4201 package offers a reliable and scalable solution for conversion from physical signals to high-fidelity actionable data for validation and research aims.
